Kids & Cops host events throughout the year that benefit the kids in our community and surrounding communities. Since December 2016 we have hosted the following events:
-Christmas Shopping – City of Alva Police Officers took 25 kids, selected by their schools, on a Christmas shopping spree. Donations allowed three more kids than last year. Each kid was given a $150.00 Walmart gift card to select items for themselves, however some purchased gifts for their family members. The kids bought all kinds of items such as toys, clothing, and even food. After the shopping, we went to Cancun Restaurant. The kids got to open their items and play with them. The Police Officers may have been able to help play with the toys as well! Big THANKS to Dario at Cancun for donating lunch to every kid.
-Christmas with Santa – City of Alva Police Officers and Firemen cooked breakfast and invited Santa. This event is for kids of all ages to have a free meal and a chance to meet Santa.
-Halloween – City of Alva Police Officers were able to pass out candy and glow stick bracelets. They also had the pleasure of taking kids trick or treating on a hay ride throughout town. As we traveled throughout town more kids joined the hay ride. By the end of the night we lost count of how many kids participated.
-Pumpkin Painting – City of Alva Police Officers purchased pumpkins and materials to decorate close to 100 pumpkins.
-School Events - Kids & Cops supplied certificates to each school for them to distribute to kids in need of a winter coat and/or shoes. Kids & cops also purchased numerous backpacks full of school supplies to personally deliver to the kids.
-Pack the Park - Kids & Cops organized a variety of vendors to provide a fun day in the sun!! At PTP the kids were able to get a free snow cone, made available by Frosty Joes, a free ice cream from Scoops Ice Cream trucks, free hotdog supper made available by Bar-S, Bible Baptist Church and Meagan Caldwell Farmers Insurance, a movie on a 25 foot inflatable screen, a bounce house made available by Holder’s, swimming at the city pool made available by the City of Alva and much more.
All of this was made possible by donations made by local citizens and local businesses. We thank you for investing in Alva’s kids!
