The ODOT water line replacement crew is currently conducting a few of the last tie ins on the water line along Hwy 281 South. Residents on the East side of Hwy 281 South (Myers Dr, Spruce, and homes in that addition) may experience low to no water pressure intermittently throughout the day. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

We are currently experiencing a rather large water leak at Flynn St and Valley View. Most residents on the West side of town will experience much lower water pressure as we have to turn off the booster station to conduct repairs. Residents in the Valley View area can expect to have no water while the repairs are being made. The utility services locates are scheduled to be completed by 4:45pm, so this might be a good time to fill up a bath tub so you can still flush toilets.

Just a reminder....trash service will run as normally scheduled this week. So if your day for pick up is Monday, please be sure to get your poly carts out tonight!
Beginning early morning on Monday, 11 August 2025, we will be tying in our new ground storage water tank and placing it into service. This will result in reduced to no water pressure for our customers South of the City of Alva. We do not know how long this will take. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Due to AT&T work on the 600 Block of Barnes St and the 500 Block of College, the trash service couldn't pick up the trash today. They will pick up those residents tomorrow morning as they weren't able to do it this morning. If residents that live on those blocks will put their blue poly carts our tomorrow morning, they will pick up your trash tomorrow, Friday 24 July 2025. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

South 4th Street Road Closure: Our Street Department is going to begin work on the 1st block of South 4th Street tomorrow, 16 July 2025. To do this work, they are going to have to close that 1st Block to all traffic for their safety and so that resident's vehicles don't get damaged. We don't have an exact timeline of how long this will take at this time. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Great news! Barnes St between Logan St and Meno St is now open again for traffic. Currently it is only paved with gravel until it has a chance to settle. Then the Street Crew will get it paved with a more permanent solution. Please take slow when crossing that section of Barnes St.

Water outage update. We have fixed the major line break that was preventing water from coming to town. Our tanks are filling up and everyone should have water in the morning. Our City water crews have been on the job for almost 48 hours straight. Thanks to them and their efforts! Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience.
Water outage update: the water crew is still working hard. They've found the waterline break that was preventing water from coming to town. Hopefully it will be repaired soon and we can start pushing water to town. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
Water outage update: The crews are still working hard to restore water service. We don't have any timeframe for restoration at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We are experiencing a decrease in our water flow to town. It is all because we had to tie in our new ground storage tank by our well field. The crew is working hard to get the air bubbles out so we can get water flowing back to town. Unfortunately we don't have a time schedule when full water flow will be back. Thank you for your patience while the crews work to fix the issue.
Trash Service will run as normal on Independence Day. If Friday is your normal trash day, please make sure you put out your poly carts as normal.

As a reminder, City Hall Offices and most City services will be off for Independence Day holiday. This includes the Transfer Site. The Transfer Site will re-open on Saturday as normal. We hope everyone has a great Independence Day!

The storm sirens are being tested at this time.
Harper Road from Hwy 281 to Skyline will be closed through Friday. The Street Department will be re-paving the road over the next 3 days. The road will be open in the evenings when we don't have heavy equipment moving around. This will allow people to use Harper Road as they need. Please use alternate routes during working hours. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we complete this project.

June 18, 2025 First Responders will be conducting a joint exercise involving an active shooter today June 18, 2025 at Alva Middle School from the hours of 2:00 PM- 6:00 PM. This exercise will involve multiple agencies including Alva Public Schools, Alva Police Department, Alva EMS, Alva Fire Department, Woods County 911, Woods County Emergency Management, Woods County Sheriffs Office and Oklahoma Highway Patrol. During the exercise personnel will be responding to the scene and will be limiting access to the immediate area while the exercise is being conducted. Please keep in mind this is only an exercise, residents nearby may hear noises or activities of concern. It is essential for agencies to train and exercise their response to better prepare responders and staff for a better more efficient response in the event of an incident taking place.

Great news! The Cory Washburn Family Memorial Swimming Pool will be opening on Saturday, 21 June 2025 at 1:00pm. We will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:00pm for major donors and other dignitaries and then open to the public at 1:00pm. If you are wanting to purchase a season pass, you can do so by coming to City Hall next week, filling out a form and paying for the pass. Season pass prices are $75 for an individual, and $225 for a family of 4 ($25 additional for each family member over 4). Come get your pass and let's enjoy the rest of the summer at the pool!

Reminder - the rules for taking tree limbs to the transfer site are: No bigger around that 6 inches and no longer than 6 feet. Any limbs bigger around or longer must be cut up prior to being taken to the wood pile at the transfer site. The attached pictures are some obvious violations of this rule. These large logs will burn for months and pose a risk to start brush fires if there are strong winds. Please adhere to the approved sizes of limbs that can be dumped at the transfer site wood pile. Thank you in advance for helping us with this!

Beginning at 3:00pm, 30 May 2025 and running through the weekend, we will have 14th St blocked to all traffic North of Flynn and North of Choctaw, as well as the West end of Choctaw. This is so that we can run a fire hose across 14th St to facilitate filling up the swimming pool. We apologize about the inconvenience, but this is the quickest way to get the new pool filled up so that the plaster can properly set.
