Until further notice, we will only be accepting limbs in the wood pile on the Northeast Side by the Gun Range. The Southwest side of the wood pile is currently smoldering and we don't want to risk an all out fire. We appreciate your understanding and have a Happy Memorial Day!

Water leak update: The leak on Murray St is fixed. They are in the process of putting the valve on the leak at the intersection of High St and College Blvd. We have opened all of the valves that feed town to get our water tanks filled back up. Everyone should start seeing water pressure coming up. We will continue to fill the tanks before we have to shut off the lines to town to fix the leak on our 16 inch line that broke in Hopeton. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Water Leak Repairs Last Update: Great news! Both leaks are now repaired and the crews are slowly turning the valves back on to send water to Alva. We anticipate it will take about 20 minutes to properly open the valves and then another 30 to 45 minutes for the water towers to begin to fill back up. Once they are at an acceptable level, the Water Department will be able to turn the booster pumps back on to give everyone the water pressure they are used to. When you see a Water Department worker next, please thank them for their hard work today and every day for the City of Alva. They were all waste deep in muddy water most of the day today -- and it wasn't the warmest day. Thank you again for you patience and understanding.

Water Leak Repairs Update: Leak #1 in Hopeton proper is wrapping up and the crew will move to Leak #2 approximately 2 miles South of Hopeton. The leak in Hopeton was approximately a 6 foot split in one of our 16 inch lines that feeds the City. Leak #2 is even bigger, but will be easier to repair as they are able to completely shut off the water flow in that location. We are hopeful that in a couple of hours they will get the valves opened back up and water flowing to town. A huge KUDOS to the Water and Street Departments. They have been working together as a team to get this fixed. We will send out another update when Leak #2 is buttoned up and they are turning valves back on. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Update to the water issues: Our water crews are deploying to a very large leak on one of our main lines that supply water to the City South of Hopeton. They have had to shut off water to the City at this time. We have water in our water towers that should provide water to the City, but with very low pressure. We have had to shut off our booster pumps to try to save as much water as possible. We don't have an estimated time that the repairs will be completed. We will provide more updates as the situation continues to unfold.

Tonight the crews doing the work on the south side of Hwy 281 will be tying in the new line. The work is scheduled for 12:00am - 4:00am. During this time the residents around the intersection of Myers Drive and Hwy 281 will have no water. Everyone else in town will see reduced pressure as we have to turn off the booster stations to reduce the pressure on the water lines. We appreciate your patience during this important work.
