Final Update #7 on the ODOT Water Line Relocation Project for 9/22-9/24
All tie ins are finished. Water is being turned back on. If you don’t have any water by 6:30 am, please call 580.748.2685 and we will get someone out to check.
All customers should anticipate a return to regular pressure by no later than mid-morning. Call the service line if you continue to have low pressure.
We truly appreciate the crews from Mach Resources who performed the majority of this work as ODOT’s contractor. We could not have done this without our great support from Myers Engineering. And of course, all of our Public Works crews, especially our Water crew, were vital to the completion of this water line relocation.
Thank you to the ladies who ensured these project updates went out, and thank you to everyone who took the time to help share the updates.
We planned for a four-hour routine tie in project, but finished with a complicated 12” line replacement under a US Highway. We have come to expect our projects won’t be routine - marrying our old infrastructure to the new. With a nice little rain storm added to the mix, we’re glad to have this wrapped up with no additional issues and no one getting hurt. All the professionals did a great job recognizing the problems and coming up with solutions as they encountered them.
As has been the case throughout this project, we have appreciated everyone’s patience and understanding.

Update #6 on the ODOT Water Line Relocation Project for 9/22-9/23
Not much to update. The rain from last night and the unexpected break this afternoon deteriorated the site conditions requiring crews to take additional safety precautions. This has slowed the work, but everything is proceeding accordingly.
Continue to anticipate low or no water pressure in the affected areas, with the Myers Addition and adjacent businesses on Highway 281 experiencing the bulk of the water service interruption.
All should be returning to normal by morning. Low water pressure may still be an issue early morning but there should be water service to all customers.
If you don’t have water in the morning, please call the City of Alva service line and we will get someone out to check. That number is 580.748.2685.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Update #5 on ODOT Water Line Relocation for 9/22-9/23
Due to an unanticipated failure of the temporary work from last night, the water line tie in scheduled for 4PM today will begin effective immediately.
Customers affected by the service interruption last night can expect to be affected similarly this afternoon and evening until the tie in is complete.
We will keep you posted if the situation changes.

Update #4 on ODOT Water Line Replacement Project for September 22-23
Without restating all of the previous updates, there is one final tie in to complete this project. Project leaders determined that since water was restored overnight, this would be best to complete at 4pm this afternoon, ensuring people had access to their water throughout the day.
There are much fewer variables impacting this final tie in and the service interruption should be minimal, but water customers should anticipate low or no water pressure for up to about four hours while the work is being completed.
Not as a guarantee, but hopefully some reassurance, the condition of the old line where the remaining tie in is needed, is known and appears to be suitable. This is unlike yesterday which the condition of the old line was not known until it was cut to make the tie in.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Beginning Monday, September 22nd at 4:00 PM, the City of Alva will be shutting off water service in the highlighted area to complete necessary repairs. This outage will affect both residents and businesses in the impacted zone. Our crews will be working diligently to complete the repairs as quickly as possible and restore service. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve our water system.
Water line update: All tie ins are now complete. The City water department crew is now turning water back on. They have 14 valves to get opened to get water back to the entire City. It will still be a little while before water is completely flowing to the entire City, but they will be working as fast as they can. Once again we appreciate your patience and understanding during this outage.
Water lines update. The crews are still working diligently to get the tie ins done. This rain isn't helping as their holes keep collapsing. They are working through the issues to get our water back on. There is no time projection that we can announce at this time. Thank you again for your continued patience and understanding.
Update on the water outage and line installation. We now have 19 contractors on this project and they have 3 crews working simultaneously. They are currently conducting two tie ins and preparing a third tie in. We are hopeful that within the next 6 hours they will have all of the tie ins complete and will have the water back on to the affected areas. Please keep in mind that this is only an estimate. Once again we appreciate your patience and understanding.

The ODOT water line replacement crew is currently conducting a few of the last tie ins on the water line along Hwy 281 South. Residents on the East side of Hwy 281 South (Myers Dr, Spruce, and homes in that addition) may experience low to no water pressure intermittently throughout the day. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

We are currently experiencing a rather large water leak at Flynn St and Valley View. Most residents on the West side of town will experience much lower water pressure as we have to turn off the booster station to conduct repairs. Residents in the Valley View area can expect to have no water while the repairs are being made. The utility services locates are scheduled to be completed by 4:45pm, so this might be a good time to fill up a bath tub so you can still flush toilets.

Just a reminder....trash service will run as normally scheduled this week. So if your day for pick up is Monday, please be sure to get your poly carts out tonight!
Beginning early morning on Monday, 11 August 2025, we will be tying in our new ground storage water tank and placing it into service. This will result in reduced to no water pressure for our customers South of the City of Alva. We do not know how long this will take. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Due to AT&T work on the 600 Block of Barnes St and the 500 Block of College, the trash service couldn't pick up the trash today. They will pick up those residents tomorrow morning as they weren't able to do it this morning. If residents that live on those blocks will put their blue poly carts our tomorrow morning, they will pick up your trash tomorrow, Friday 24 July 2025. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

South 4th Street Road Closure: Our Street Department is going to begin work on the 1st block of South 4th Street tomorrow, 16 July 2025. To do this work, they are going to have to close that 1st Block to all traffic for their safety and so that resident's vehicles don't get damaged. We don't have an exact timeline of how long this will take at this time. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Great news! Barnes St between Logan St and Meno St is now open again for traffic. Currently it is only paved with gravel until it has a chance to settle. Then the Street Crew will get it paved with a more permanent solution. Please take slow when crossing that section of Barnes St.

Water outage update. We have fixed the major line break that was preventing water from coming to town. Our tanks are filling up and everyone should have water in the morning. Our City water crews have been on the job for almost 48 hours straight. Thanks to them and their efforts! Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience.
Water outage update: the water crew is still working hard. They've found the waterline break that was preventing water from coming to town. Hopefully it will be repaired soon and we can start pushing water to town. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.
Water outage update: The crews are still working hard to restore water service. We don't have any timeframe for restoration at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We are experiencing a decrease in our water flow to town. It is all because we had to tie in our new ground storage tank by our well field. The crew is working hard to get the air bubbles out so we can get water flowing back to town. Unfortunately we don't have a time schedule when full water flow will be back. Thank you for your patience while the crews work to fix the issue.
Trash Service will run as normal on Independence Day. If Friday is your normal trash day, please make sure you put out your poly carts as normal.
